Technicheskaya Estetika
From 1964 to 1992, VNIITE published Technicheskaya Estetika (‘technical aesthetics’), the Soviet Union’s only periodical entirely dedicated to the theory, history, and practice of design. ‘Technical aesthetics’ was the Soviet Union’s term for the field of design, reflecting its conceptual attitude toward this area. This monthly journal introduced the general public to some of the industry’s biggest names while also highlighting various projects and developments in industrial and graphic design both domestically and internationally. It also included specialist articles on design methodology, ergonomics, colour theory, materials, quality control, standardization, and more. While starting as an informational bulletin with just 7,000 copies, Technicheskaya Estetika soon became a highly influential journal with a circulation of over 38,000 copies at its peak.
