Sinteza

The magazine Sinteza (‘synthesis’) was formed in 1964 when the fine arts magazine Likovne besede (‘art texts’) merged with the architecture magazine Arhitekt (‘architect’). Under the editorship of art historian Stane Bernik, it remained for three decades the leading Slovenian magazine for fine art, architecture, and design. It presented and evaluated the latest achievements in architecture and design, effectively taking the lead in the related theoretical discourse, with contributions by theoreticians from all over Yugoslavia. It also published articles on art and architecture from Yugoslavia’s other major centres, including Zagreb, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Skopje, Novi Sad, and more. Its hundredth issue, which was also its last, was published in 1994. The journal remains an indispensable historical source for the study of architecture, urbanism, design, and the fine arts in the former Yugoslavia.
