The Design and Industrial Production Aesthetic Council, Warsaw [Rada Wzornictwa Przemysłowego]

The Design and Industrial Production Aesthetic Council (1959–82), an advisory body established by the Poland’s Council of Ministers, was modelled on the British Council of Industrial Design. Tasked with coordinating efforts to improve the quality of industrial production through the implementation of good design, its members included representatives of industry associations and selected specialists. It invited design experts to provide ministerial input and initiated the creation of research and development centres for the main branches of industry. These centres focused on experimentation and the implementation of new technologies, also collaborating with factories and their design departments. Other tasks included popularising design by organising exhibitions, competitions, and conferences, as well as publishing print materials, evaluating industrial products, and giving out designer awards.
