Its first art director was Roman Cie\u015blewicz (1930\u201396), an emerging graphic designer who quickly grew to fame and later became art director of <em>Elle<\/em> in Paris but unofficially continued working for <em>Ty i ja<\/em> at the same time. The magazine was known for its high-quality graphic design, especially its covers designed by Cieslewicz and other figures from the Polish School of Posters.
